I am an American guy who came to Seoul, South Korea and loved the country and decided to stay to start Seoul Brow, the first Eyebrow Threading company in South Korea

The art of eyebrow threading has been practiced in ancient cultures like India, Pakistan, and Iran for many centuries by young and old females of the family who learn this unique art form.

We have found multiple pictures of the before and after pictures of people who have had their eyebrows threaded or trimmed. Notice the difference in how they look after the session

The practice of eyebrow threading is hygenic and safe. The cotton used is 100% natural cotton so it will be irritating the skin

Like most eyebrow threading locations, we also offer the service of doing henna tattoos in not only the traditional red color dye, but also more fun blue and green coloring.

So where else around the world can you get eyebrow threading done if you are outside of the country and looking for a location? Find out Here!

So what is eyebrow threading? How is it done and is it painful?

Eyebrow Threading Yourself

How To Thread Your Own Eyebrows

Maybe you have found that you are getting very frustrated with your regular threader because they seem to not be around the store or have closed their shop recently. You call and email these people who are supposed to be running a legitimate business and all you get are unanswered phone calls, texts, and emails.

You decide that maybe it is just smarter and cheaper to learn how to thread your own eyebrows. You don’t want to be the person who is always waiting for the other person to be free so you want to try out to thread your own eyebrows.

Well how do you get started in learning this ancient art of personal care and beauty?

First you have to decide whether you want to do threading the traditional way, which is just to use the thread and little else, or you want to do the threading at a much faster way using what is known as a Threading Device.

The traditional way for threading using just the thread is extremely cheap but not that easy and requires that you practice learning how to hold the thread in the right position.

So what are the steps?

Step 1 – Get the right type of thread to do your eyebrow threading. this is actually very important. Some people who are occasional threaders who don’t do it professionally would say that any 100% cotton based thread from a sewing kit would work but I would have to actually disagree. From my personal experience, the type of thread one should get is very important because if you get a thread that is too thin, it won’t be able to handle the thread-thread rubbing that will happen when you pull at one end to uproot the hairs. If you get the thread to be too hard or too thick , it won’t do a very good job in actually being able to grab onto the hairs and cause enough grip to actually pull out the hair. What is more likely to happen with thicker threads is that you would snap the hairs at the bottom instead of actually pull out the hair at the root.

Vanity Eyebrow ThreadSo which eyebrow thread do I recommend?

I prefer to go with something that is rather cheap but also strong, which I found from Amazon. It is called “Vanity Threading Thread Box” which costs only $5.50 for 10 spools.

Buy From Amazon Here!

It comes in a box of 10 spools. The thread in general is strong for most types of hair, even coarse hair which one might find in the upper lip region, and it is still thin enough to have a reasonably good grip so that when you pull the thread to thread the eyebrow, the result is a smooth clean skin where the hairs are completely uprooted.

Step 2 – Learn how to hold the thread correctly in the hands. This step requires me to go into slightly more detail & give mini-steps…

The mini steps…

  • Mini-Step #1: First you pull about 18-24 inches of off the threading spool.
  • Mini-Step #2: You tie the ends of the broken thread together creating a fully close looped thread. Put the thread down and open it up so you can put your fingers through.
  • Mini-Step #3: You put your non-dominant hand’s middle finger and thumb into the loop. Some people prefer to use the fore finger and the thumb to do threading so if you feel more comfortable going with that, go with that. However I personally prefer to use the middle finger and thumb way.
  • Mini-Step #4: Use your dominant hand to pull the thread taut & twist the other end of the thread 4-6 times around.
  • Self Eyebrow ThreadingMini-Step #5: Use the same fingers in your dominant hand to pull the entire thread taut forming the “hourglass shape”.
  • Mini-Step #6: Now you are ready to put the thread’s triangular angle on your forehead ready to do the threading.

Step 3- Understand the direction of how your eyebrow hairs are naturally pushed in. Since you are planning on doing eyebrow threading on yourself, note that any directions that you remember for doing threading on other people is reversed.

  • For your left eyebrows, the left outer edge is going in the upper left direction. On the edge of the left eyebrow closer to the center near the nose, the direction which the hair goes in is upwards.
  • For your right eyebrows, the outer right edge is going in the upper right direction. On the edge of the right eyebrow close to the center near the nose, the direction which the hair is pushed towards is upwards as well.

Step 4 – Understand that for you to do a good job in completely uprooting the hairs from the root, you want to pull the thread against the natural direction of the hair.

  • This means that for your left eyebrow, you would want to put the eyebrow hair in the triangular angle in the right corner of the thread shape. Then you would open up your left middle finger and thumb to pull the hair in the right direction.
  • For your right eyebrow, the angle that you want to put the eyebrow hairs in is the left one created by the left middle finger and left thumb. You want to open your right hand’s fingers to pull in the left side to pull in the direction opposite of the hair’s growth.

The Simpler & Faster Way Using A Threading Device

If you instead you want to use a much simpler, faster way to thread your eyebrows, then you would want to buy a threading device. A threading device is a simple plastic thing where you hook the thread you are using to the ends of these entended ends. The thread is eventually put in a “figure 8 shape” or “hourglass shape”. You put the ends of

There are only a few threading devices that I know of right now which seem to do a reasonable job. The place where I went to find them is Amazon, although Ebay would work too.

Helix Threadase Threading ToolI have looked at the few types that are on Amazon and I would say that the best currently is the one called “Helix ThreadEase Threading Tools” which is just $20, which is reasonable in price compared to the others.

Buy From Amazon Here!

There is only 4 devices that I found on Amazon that is a device that allows a person to do their own eyebrows.

The 4 others are…

  1. Electric “Epithreader” Hair Removal System
  2. Slique Eyebrow Face and Body Hair Threading and Removal System
  3. Threading Eyebrow Hair Removal Machine Kit
  4. Karmissie Lux Deluxe Threader Kit

However, there are issues and problems with all of them in terms of either being too expensive, or being just not effective or strong enough to actually do a good job in hair removal. The Threading Eyebrow Hair Removal Machine Kit is around $80 and the one by Karmissie is $125! Yikes! No person would ever want to spend that much just for a system for only eyebrow shaping and trimming.

So to use the device, you hook the special thread you would already have bought to all 4 hook ends of the device, and then you position the two fork in opposite directions, holding the threads taut.

Self Threading DeviceYou then put the angles of the threads next to the region of the eyebrow you want to shape or trim. Refer to the picture to the right.

Note: I took that picture from the Amazon product page for the Helix ThreadEase Threading Tools

The only thing you need to do is to push down and up on the devices to simulate what it is like to get threading done usually by your local salon.

So hope that helps you girls (and maybe guys) figure out how to do your own eyebrows and take back your control of your beautification process.

Happy Threading,

Michael Jonn

The Top 5 Best Skin Whitening Creams of 2014

Fair and Lovely Skin Whitening Cream

Warning: It is important to point out that in the process of making creams and ointments that can supposedly whiten a person’s face, sometimes harmful and carcinogenic type chemical compounds have been added as an ingredient into the creams. Please be sure to read the labels and the ingredients in the creams first and understand all of the possible negative side effects before ever deciding to try them out. One of the most common ingredients in traditional older products of skin whitening products was to use Sodium Hypochloride. It is chemically shortened to NaClO. NaClO when mixed in normal water turns into what is commonly known as bleach. The 2nd well known whitening agent is what is found in the Teeth Whitening agent the dentist uses, called Carbamide peroxide. When you put that into the mouth, it breaks down into Hydrogen Peroxide. It is actually hydrogen peroxide which is the real whitening agent in teeth.

I realize that it is now the year 2014 and we as a human race should stop getting hung up on the fact that we all have different skin colors, but it seems like that somehow many people still seem to really care about changing the color of their skin. In general, most cultures around the world are trying to make their skins lighter, not darker. In the same way, if you ask most people and most cultures around the world whether they want to either be taller or shorter, most people would say that they wish to be taller. I personally don’t know whether people are just interested in trying to look more “European” aka “White” but there is a sort of concensus among the South Asian community, the East Asian Community, the Southeast Asian community, the Middle Eastern community, and even among the African American community that having lighter colored skin is better than darker colored skin.

I personally don’t just people on whatever they wish to do with their life, and if they want to do something to their body which they think makes them look more beautiful, I say “Go ahead”, as long as the procedure or product they are planning to use does not harm them.

Here is a list of the top 5 skin whitening creams of this year, 2014!

My Personal Review On The Silk’n BellaLite At-Home Hair Removal Device

My Personal Review On The Silk’n BellaLite At-Home Hair Removal Device

Silk'n BellaLiteIt seems that maybe I am not fully aware of just how much things have changed since I left the USA this past 2 years since just today when I went back to Costco I found in one aisle another one of those at-home hair removal devices being sold. Only this time, the product was not being so aggresively promoted like before with the other one called the Me Smooth Elos. I did a very long and extensive review on the Me Smooth Elos Home Removal System maybe about 2 weeks ago since I also saw that model being sold at Costco.

Getting back to the story, so I was walking through the aisles of the local Costco at Kirkland, WA when I stumbled upon the hair removal unit. I was sort of excited to see that the whole hair removal industry is now making their products much more affordable for mass consumption use. There was at least a dozen boxes of the BellaLite unit available.

Home Hair Removal DeviceI forgot to take a picture of the price on the boxes but I did take a couple of pictures which you can see above and to the right.

So it may be a little hard for you guys to read the picture but what it says in the back is that there was two different dermatologists who seems to have developed that technology.

The BellaLite uses a patented type of special light emitting technology to get at the roots of the hair to remove the hair. It is called the Home Pulsed Light Technology.

There seems to be at least one professional MD who is put her own face and professional name behind the product, a Dr. Tina S. Alster, who is the Director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery as well as the Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Georgetown Universty Medical Center.

Now, this product seems to be listed both on the Costco Website (Available Here) as well as our good old friend Amazon.com (Available Here). The Prices listed for this same product on both websites are dramatically different actually.

  • Price of the BellaLite on Costco Website: $150 until Mid-July, 2014
  • Price of the BellaLite on Amazon Website: $200 with Free Shipping

Product PicturesNow, we all realize that both Costco and Amazon are known for trying to give the best deals and discounts to their shoppers. Sometimes, Amazon has the lowest prices. This time, it was Costco. In terms of convenience, both Costco and Amazon are great. Costco is a multinational chain which have stores even back in South Korea. In Seoul alone I remember that there was 3 Costco stores, and I would go to the one at YangJae Station to eat the 1,500 Korean won hotdogs every other weekend. The other two was close to SangDong Station and another one.

Here are some of the product specifications that was listed on its product page…

  • Power Source Input: 120-240 Volts, at 50-60 Hertz
  • Not for use in areas with tattoo
  • Not for use in areas which have been recently tanned

Since we are talking about the technical details, the way the model works is that there is a type of disposal cartridge that the unit works on. In that cartridge, there is enough power for 750 pulses of light emission. When the light is emitted, the light would work by going deep into lower layers of the skin and burning the follicles away. You can use the unit in most of the general areas like legs, bikini line, underarms, and arm areas.

So when it comes to price, Costco currently has the best offer. However, that offer lasts only until the mid of july this year. After that I am afraid that the price will go back up to $200. So if you are going to get it, go to your local Costco. If not, check out the model on Amazon.

My Complete Review On The iGrow Laser Hair Rejuvenation System

My Complete Review On The iGrow Laser Hair Rejuvenation System

iGrow Laser Hair Rejuvenation SystemEver since I came back to the USA about two months ago, I have started to notice that many products are coming out that are much more electronic focused. Something I found recently being sold at the local Fry’s Electronic Store based in Renton in the greater Seattle Metropolitan area was this completely new product called the igrow Laser Hair Rejuvenation System. Since Seoulbrow is about epilation or hair removal, this product which talks about regrowing hair instead of removing hair might seem a little bit out of place, but I still think it is appropriate to talk about this product on this website. The thing is that we humans are really picky with our looks. Based on the specific culture and/or ethnicity you grew up in or raised in, the location of where hair starts to grow up in is quite important. People want hair on the top of their heads, but would prefer that hair does NOT appear in certain other places.

Full Review

Hair RegrowthI recently wrote a review on a similar product called the Me Smooth Elos Home Hair Removal System. That electronic device uses the same type of technology to remove hair as this devices uses to grow hair. I guess what can harm you can also heal you at the same time. It just depends on the context, the situation, and what type of application you plan to use the device on.

I found the website which sells this device www.igrowlaser.com and the product is listed on the website for around $700. That is a lot for a hair rejuvenation product but if it actually really does work, then the price would be totally worth it.

I have known many people, including my uncles and grandfather who have tried to use various products over the last few decades to combat the receding hairline and stop the loss of hair on their head.

Male Pattern Baldness aka Androgenic Alopecia is something that actually affects maybe 30%-40% of all men. From what I remember, men who has higher than average testosterone levels from the average male level are more likely to suffer from male pattern baldness. This device would revolutionize things if it works.

The Science Behind the Product

iGrowWhile I have not studied the science on why low level laser therapy works, this is what is said on the website…

Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) invigorates cells within low-production hair follicles, causing existing thinning hair to become thicker and fuller through the growth cycle.

So the device shines a combination of laser and led light type into the scalp. When combined together, there is a total of 51 light sources, all shining light down on your scalp. The light is defined by the wavelength, which is at 655 nanometers.

When you buy the product, you will get the following accessories which comes with the helmet…

  • iGrow
  • Remote Control
  • Universal AC Adapters
  • Auxiliary Cable
  • User Manual
  • Remote Control Cable

The claim is that you want to use the product for at least 4 months to see results. It will not just reverse the process of hair thinning, but also hair loss. The hair will become thicker, shinier, and more radiant.

The website says that if you don’t see any results for 6 months, then they will give you a full money back guarantee. So far, I have not been able to spend too much time looking over this model. Some people have said great things about it, but it is quite expensive. It is not cheap. Please be sure to do your homework and read what other people are saying about this supposed amazing new hair regrowing product before ever making a purchase. They may offer that 6 month money back guarantee but that doesn’t mean you should do your due diligence.

You can find more information on the product here

My Personal Review On The Me Smooth Elos Home Hair Removal System Device

My Personal Review On The Me Smooth Elos Home Hair Removal System Device

Me Smooth Elo Hair RemovalSince I came back to Seattle, I have not had much time to see what has changed in the elipation world. Yesterday however I did see something interesting while I was strolling through the local Costco (based in Kirkland, WA). It seems that a whole square was being dedicated to this new product that was on display. It is a At-Home Hair Removal Device. The name of it was called the Me Smooth Elo. The website which you can find the actual product and get more information from is at www.mepower.com. So I was immediately interested and went to the display and a sales representative for the company asked me whether I had any questions. I said I did, since I write reviews for this type of product. She proceeded to pull out this guide on why this “Painless Hair Removal Device” would be effective. At first I thought the Me Smooth Elo was just another epilator, using the same metal or disc based spinning edges which pull out the hair. Those types are not painless until you are sufficiently lathered and wet. This one was different.

The Science Behind the Painless Hair Removal

Elos Pic1This model is based on a type of light of a certain frequency, which can actually burn the stubs of hairs that are below the skin surface.

There was three main types of light that is used for hair removal. Most people have probably heard of the Laser Home Hair Removal types, which I talked about already in many reviews before. Then there is a deeper skin tissue hair removal light based technology called Pulsed Light. That just means that the light can work on the layer of skin much deeper below the surface of the skin. This one called the Elo can go even deeper.

How that is done seems to be based on the frequency of the type of light being emitted.

  1. Laser
  2. High Intensity Pulsed Light
  3. Elo

Those the three types of light that the woman showed me in a chart. My guess is that she did not really know what type of technology went into it. On the Amazon product page for the Me Smooth, the sellers claim that the three types of light is actually

  1. Infra-Red Light aka IRL
  2. Radio Frequency – RF
  3. Laser

I believe that the woman may have gotten some of the light types confused and used the world interchangeably.

How to use it.

Using it is really simple. Here are the three main steps

  1. Turn it on
  2. Set the intensity of the light being emitted from Low, Medium, or High. There are buttons for all three intensity modes.
  3. Switch on the Elo button at the top of the device.

Elos TechnologyWhat is really nice about this unit is that it is supposed to be perfect for people with all different types of skin colors. It works for people with fair and light skin to darker shades of skin color. Not only does the light work for different skin types, it also works on different hair color types. Blonde, Ginger, Black, Brown, and everything in between, this home hair removal system can remove all of those hairs. I actually took a few pictures and put them up so that the people here can see what is on the side of the box if they choose to get it.

Now that I have had a time to look at the sides of the box, it seems that at least this model is called the Me Smooth and it is based on Elos Technology, if you read the fine print on the Elos logo at the bottom. On the MePower website, they say that it is supposed to be the first and only home hair removal system on the market, but I know that it is not true, since I have found already maybe half a dozen other types around.

Epilator AttachmentHere is some other accessories you can buy with the light based hair removal system. I took a picture of the standard epilator head type which will be popped on top of the unit as a type of attachment. Notice in the picture how the head is just a single spinning side with metal discs in the wedges. There doesn’t seem to be any type of plastic bristles which would prevent the onset of ingrown hairs and I would like to leave a quick opinion here.

What is inside the package when you buy it…

  1. The actual Me Device
  2. The Elos Cartridge
  3. The protective Cap
  4. The Power Cord
  5. The owner’s instructional manual

The company is called Syneron Beauty Ltd. and you can get to call their customer support line at 1-877-651-1177. It seems that Syneron may be a Israel based company. That is kind of interesting since the original epilator device was made also from Israel.

Do NOT get the epilator head attachment. It will be not worth it. The whole purpose of these laser & light based hair removal systems is that they are painless. Epilators in general, even done perfectly can be quite painful.

What is my overall opinion on the Me Smooth Unit?

Well, this device seems to be already sold by many other companies under multiple different names.

It is already sold by the reseller/distributor Tanda. We found a product page for the same unit called the Tanda Me Smooth Home Hair Removal Unit. (Available Here)

In terms of prices, Costco having it listed at $250 currently. It may seem like a lot but when you look at the price compared to almost any other online store, it is at least $100 cheaper. On Amazon it was listed at around $340 the last I checked.

Note: After checking the Costco online store, I found that Costco is also carrying the Remington i-Light Pro (product page) as well as the Silk’n BellaLite Home Hair Removal System (product page).

Here is what I suggest.

Go to your local Costco and see if they carry it. If the model is not currently available at your local Costco, go to the online store. I found it listed on the Canada Costco website (product page here).

Why Is Our Threading Service So Much Better Than Other Hair Removal Salons?

Well, the first thing that makes us so different is that we don’t have a salon. :(

We originally had a store a few years ago, but after running it for a few months, we realized that there was not enough customers who wanted our services. Our rent cost were too high and we had to shut down after careful thought over the finances of our small business.

Since we no longer have a real store or shop, we realized that it was even more important that the person who goes in for a session feel comfortable and relaxed when meeting us. If the interested customer comes to us, an incall, they will get a service that they have never had before.

If the person brings a friend, we give them a 20% discount immediately. If they come back more than 3 times, they get a full 50% discount off! That is right. That is how much we love our customers.

When you come in with your friends, and are waiting, you can relax while watching TV, and enjoying our refreshments and popcorn! Sometimes we might even have a small celebration and might ask people to joy in.
