Emjoi AP-18 Emagine Review

The makers of this model is by Emjoi so the name of it is the Emjoi AP-18 Emagine Epilator which is also called the Emagine Dual Opposed 72 Tweezer Head Epilator. The reason it is called the Dual Opposed Epilator is from the way that the rotating discs are set up. There is more than just 1 set of spinning metal blades, but two. Not only is there two heads that will be spinning, but this model has one of the largest numbers of tweezers among epilators. What sets it apart from most others is the 72 tweezers which are the combine total of tweezers on both heads.

This model by Emjoi is definitely the most popular model of epilator sold by Emjoi. There is the men’s version with a device just like this which is black called the AP-18MS but since most epilators are sold to and intended for women, this is the standard model that most people have from Emjoi.
The reasons why this model is so popular is based on the multiple design features on it. The main reason is because of the dual head design which makes this model have double the number of tweezers than other models. With the greater number of tweezers, it means that when you do use the epilator to go over a skin area, it is much more likely to completely remove all of the hairs the first time. You have less need to go through the same area a 2nd time or even a 3rd time. By reducing the need to go over the areas, the benefits are then you save time from epilation but also reduce the chances that your skin will become irritated from frequent passes of rubbing the head to your skin areas.
When you do actually press the device on your skin and start to move it around your skin areas, the two heads first pulls the skin taut. When the skin is taut, there is less chances for the metal edges of the two heads to nick you or pinch you. It also helps cause the hairs on that air to be lifted slightly. The two head also means that a greater amount of surface area is covered.
Right between the opposing dual heads is a jagged plastic piece known as the fingers. They are in the middle and their purpose is to lift the hairs that are fallen to the side to lift upwards before any of the two heads passes over the region. This is obviously to make sure that the incidence of ingrown hair is dramatically reduced. If there was no middle finger part to allow the hairs that have gotten long and fallen sideways to be pushed back up, there will be some hairs that will be pushed back into the skin when the metal discs spin to that region.
When you do pull or push the epilator, the heads get extremely close to the skin, and manage to grasp the hairs at the base from just the first pass. The claim from the specifications is that you can get hairs that are as short as even half a millimeter in length to be pulled out from the root using the device. That is very impressive. Obviously for the model to be that accurate, you want to press the hair removal device very close to your skin and keep the skin taut so that there is no skin that is scrunched or loosen in the region of the head. The handle is easy and comfortable to hold being very well ergonomically designed. There is some type of Glide technology that was patented to allow for the least amount of skin irritation when you are passing the head over the skin surface.
In terms of appearance, the head is curved so that when you move it in different directions, the head will curve to the natural contour of your body. The grip is known as a soft touch grip meaning that not only do you feel comfort using it, it also gives you complete control on the model. The spacing of opening of the discs in both of the heads is exactly 17 millimeters, which the sellers of the model says is the optimum radius for the most effective rate of hair removal.
As for the places of the body the Emagine AP-18 can be used on, it seems to be good for every location, even the most sensitive areas. You can use it for facial hair, which includes the upper lip and the chin. You can use it in the more personal areas like the bikini line, the legs, and the underarms/armpits. To help prevent any type of bacterial or microbial infection, the outer edge or layer of the head uses something known as Silver Ion Technology.
The Emjoi AP-18 is not just a single speed device, but a double speed hair removal device. The button at the center allows you to switch from on and off, but also choose the slow speed of epilation or the high speed. Obviously the higher speed means that you get a quicker session of hair removal which means less pain overall, but that does increase the chance of having the metal discs snap the hairs into stubble instead of completely removing the hairs by pulling them out by the root. When you do get finished with using the Emjoi AP-18 Emagine for each session, the skin area is supposed to remain hairless for upwards of even 6 weeks.
When you buy the device, you get more than just the Emagine AP-18. You also get the cleaning brush with the kit to let you clean the dual heads.
What is something which is not very good seems to be the fact that it only operates when plugged in. Unlike some other models, there is no battery inside. You need to always have it plugged into an outlet to get it to work.
How much does the Emagine Epilator cost?
The Emagine AP-18 model, not to be confused with the men’s AP-18MS model is currenty listed on the Emjoi website to be $100 and it can only be shipped to locations in the US. If you are out of the US, even in Canada you can’t get it. On Amazon it is listed at $80 and you get free shipping.
What do other people think of the Emagine AP-18 which have already bought it?
This Emagine model by Emjoi is extremely popular. There is currently over 600 reviews for this model alone. The vast majority of people who have bought it and took the time to write a review about it have given it the highest of ratings, a 10/10. The overall rating is 8/10 which is reasonable. However, there are obviously going to be some people who are not happy with this purchase. When I took the time to look over the negative reviews on the model, it seems that there are come reoccurring points made on why a few of the buyers hated it.
- It seems to not to be able to get the really short hairs – After even three or more passes with the device, the skin still felt rather stubby
- The head is too big – The head is too big for you to ever use it say on the bikini line area.
- It seems to miss some hairs consistently – This means that you actually waist time in making multiple passes on the same area.
Would I personally recommend the Emagine AP-18 model of epilator?
Despite my personal issue on how the head can not be popped off and rinsed with water to clean it and the fact that it has to be corded, I like the model overall. It has the feature of the fingers in between the two heads which means that the hairs are lifted up before pulled out. There is 72 tweezers which is much more than most other models. I would recommend this model for the person who is trying to look for the best epilator for their hair removal needs. So check out the model by clicking on the link below.
